James W. Hammond earned his B.A. from McMaster University in 1953 and his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1957. He was called to the Bar in 1957 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1971.
Mr. Hammond brings to our firm over 40 years of knowledge and expertise in family, wills and estates, real estate, and commercial law. He is a former Deputy Crown Attorney, Criminal Code Offences, and former Federal Prosecutor respecting offenses under the Bankruptcy Act, the Competition Act and the Income Tax Act. His knowledge, experience, and ability to communicate, along with his team of dedicated support staff, ensures each of his clients the best possible advice, representation, and service, as well as peace of mind during what can often be very taxing experiences in a client's life.
Mr. Hammond has worked with a wide variety of clients, from small and medium-sized individual corporations and partnerships, to family trusts and estates, to individuals and their families.
His creative approach to resolving disputes and attaining maximum benefit for his clients is reflected in the large number of loyal clients who return and retain his services for a majority of their continuing legal needs.
Mr. Hammond regularly participates in continuing legal education programs in efforts to provide the most up-to-date information and effective legal services. And as part of the larger SMTA team, he is able to draw on all areas of expertise and provide the most comprehensive services to each client.
Whether it be simply to discuss the implications of a custody arrangement, to administer a complex estate, or to defend a client's interests in a corporate/commercial dispute, Mr. Hammond and his team are ready to handle each matter effectively, efficiently, and discreetly.
