The Internet is an indispensable part of our practice. It provides access to resources which enhance more traditional legal research, thus allowing us to do a more thorough job for each of our clients.
Each lawyer's and staff member's computer accesses the Internet via a high-speed Bell Canada ISDN Microlink communications line Bell high speed DSL Ultra that can accommodate all users simultaneously. This line provides Internet access speeds several times faster than those provided by simple telephone dial-up access. This speed puts us at an advantage when downloading and uploading particularly large documents.
Communication
Internet E-Mail
Our office's Internet access also gives us access to e-mail, permitting us to e-mail each other and our clients (see our Disclaimer for a cautionary note before sending us e-mail). All members of the firm check their e-mail regularly. Via e-mail, we can exchange general messages, as well as documents and programs. In all, our clients report being very pleased with this convenient communications alternative.
Other Electronic Document Transmission
We are able to send and receive documents electronically using a variety of transmission protocols.
Interoffice E-Mail
In addition to Internet e-mail, a closed, secure interoffice e-mail system is also in place at our offices, permitting members of the firm to exchange information with one another in an efficient and confidential fashion. Documents can be easily distributed to multiple parties, cutting down on the time it normally takes to conduct a "group review." Since the implementation of this system, productivity in our office has increased 10-fold.
Remote Access
Members of our firm are able to communicate with our office systems even when away from the office. While on business trips or even on vacation, lawyers and staff can log onto our network and have complete access to their personal and client data, giving them the opportunity to service clients at any time. This has proved an invaluable time-saver and clients report very favourable results.
Electronic Presentations
Whenever necessary, our lawyers, staff, and clients are able to give presentations in our boardroom using a computer (clients are able to bring in their own mobile computers should they so desire). With advance notice to our IT Department, we can accommodate nearly all of our clients' electronic presentation needs.
